Abstract

The nature of human colour vision has been the subject of much research, and is generally well understood. By contrast, relatively little is known about colour vision in animals. This partly reflects experimental problems for it is difficult to know whether an animal is responding to a colour cue or to some other external stimulus. This article review current knowledge about colour vision in vertebrates.
