Abstract

We consider colour screening effects in soft hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus collisions at high energies using the idea of constituent quarks. It is shown that the quark colour screening hypothesis can be formulated as a sum rule for the elastic and inelastic quark-quark amplitudes. Taking into account colour screening effects the cross sections σ tot , σ el and σ DD are calculated for hadron-hadron collisions. The problem of screening effects in hadron-nucleus collisions is discussed.
