Abstract

Three azo pigments were prepared under a range of carefully controlled conditions and their colour measured with instruments, as described in Part I of this paper. Measurements of particle‐size distribution on the same pigments have been made by a number of methods, principally by a centrifugal sedimentometer, which is fully described. It was found that the samples of each pigment that had the highest tinctorial power were those that had the largest proportion of particles below 0·25 μ size. The factors found to affect colour values are considered to be those that also affect the nucleation and growth of pigment crystals after the coupling process.
