Abstract

Two 1D coordination polymers exhibit a dramatic trellislike structural contraction during activation, resulting in the contortion of conceptually rigid ligands in the guest-free forms. Structural expansion may be effected by a liquid guest in both cases and by vapor in one. The vapor sorption behavior varies with changes in vapor pressure and kinetic diameter of the solvent in question.
