Abstract

Coloration reactions of nitrate with many organic reagents in concentrated sulfuric acid solution are investigated, among which new methods using chromotropic acid, Direct Rhoduline Red RH, and Chrome Blue Black R are described. The result of further investigation of chromotropic acid method indicated that the quantitative estimation of NO3- amounting above 1γ/cc is possible by using 20 cc total sample containing sulfuric acid and water at the ratio of 3:1 by volume, but the solution does not follow Beer's law above the concentration of 10γ/cc.The presence of NO2-up to 3γ/cc does not interfere the reaction, above which it is necessary to decompose it.
