Abstract

The colorimetry and spectrophotometry of Mn(VI) solutions were studied, taking into consideration the effects of alkalinity, telluric acid and manganate concentration. The method could be applied successfully for the determination of manganese in the alkaline leach liquor from manganese ores. The extraction of manganese as Mn(VI) from Egyptian ores was studied. It was found that five successive fusions of MnO 2 with one mole of alkali and one mole of chlorate per mole of manganese dissolved 95.64% of the MnO 2. With two moles of alkali and chlorate the percentage of MnO 2 dissolved rose to 98.65%.
