Abstract
Aliphatic aldehydes react with 2,3‐dimethyl‐2,3‐bis‐(hydroxylamino)butane and sodium periodate to form colored free radicals. These radicals were stabilized with pyridine in aqueous solution. Low levels of formaldehyde in aqueous solutions were determined utilizing this reaction.
