Abstract

A number of absorption and luminescence bands have been produced by impurities incorporated into diamond. In high pressure synthetic diamonds, incorporation of the impurities, i.e. N, B, Si, P, Ni and Co, is controlled by composition of metallic solvent catalyst and growth temperature. Heat treatment in which nitrogen impurities migrate changes structures of the impurities, resulting in change of color.
