Abstract

In this work, novel lanthanum borogermanates La3Ge2BO10 (LGB) has been successfully synthesized and the crystal structure was determined for the first time. The Er3+/Yb3+, Tb3+/Er3+/Yb3+ and Eu3+/Er3+/Yb3+ activated LGB phosphors have been synthesized by high-temperature solid-state reactions, and the photoluminescence properties were investigated. The introduction of Tb3+ and Eu3+ to LGB: Er3+/Yb3+ was used to modify the intensity ratios of green emissions/red emissions (RG/R), then providing a good signal discriminability for temperature detection. The change in RG/R induces the shift of emission color from yellow-green to green for LGB: Tb3+/Er3+/Yb3+ and from yellow-green to yellow for LGB: Eu3+/Er3+/Yb3+ as the temperature increase. All the results indicate that the LGB: Er3+/Tb3+/Yb3+ and LGB: Er3+/Eu3+/Yb3+ phosphors may be promising candidates for application in optical temperature sensing.
