Abstract

A novel color image sensor array based on TFA (Thin Film on ASIC) technology is described. In the array a-Si(C):H nipin diodes act as optical three color detectors, whereas the crystalline circuit provides photo current integration and signal readout. In this way a single pixel sequentially generates a full color RGB signal without the need of color filters. The transient response of the diode under pulsed illumination is examined in order to evaluate the impact of the detector speed on sensor performance and image quality. By proper design of the pixel electronics and technological means the full dynamic range of the color diode can be exploited in the array.
