Abstract

Colombia is currently implementing a peace process with the now demobilized Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). A clear assumption of the peace process is that electoral integration is necessary for long-term peace and reconciliation. The notion of elections as at least a partial means of reconciliation and peace is not new to Colombia. This article examines the usage of elections and party creation as a means of political integration in Colombian political history as context for understanding the current process.
