Abstract

The relaxation of highly excited Rb(72S12/) atoms by collisions with excited K(42P32/) atoms is investigated using the time-resolved spectroscopy technique. An estimation of the effective cross section is (5.6+or-0.6)*10-13 cm2 at a working temperature T=593K. A comparison is made with similar processes involving atoms of the same species.
