Abstract

For pt. II see abstr. A31797 of 1972. Inclined beams of electrons and H2+ ions have been used in measurements of cross sections for proton production with interaction energies between 3.45 and 31.5 eV. A source was used which produced the ions under clearly defined conditions. The cross section was 11.6 pi a02 at 3.45 eV and decreased, with increasing energy, over the whole energy range. There is some evidence of structure between 10 and 20 eV which is not predicted by an extension of the theoretical work of Peek (1967), and Peek and Green (1969) to lower interaction energies.
