Abstract

The collective modes (longitudinal and transverse phonon frequencies) in binary metallic glass Cu50Zr50 have been studied in terms of eigen frequencies of localized collective excitations. Model potential formalism along with the Hubbard‐Beeby approach has been utilized to compute the phonon frequencies in the glassy system. The computed phonon dispersion curves show all broad features of the collective excitations. Further, from the long wavelength limit of phonon frequencies, various elastic constants have been calculated and are found to be in good agreement with experimental data.
