Collections of G. C. Girgensohn (1786–1872): lectotypes and rare species

Abstract

We give an overview of G. C. Girgensohn collections, some of which had been neglected for a long time. Lectotypes of Sphagnum wulfianum Girg. and Tortula lingulata Lindb. are designated, based on material in herbarium TAA. Specimens for 16 species that are very rare in Estonia or Latvia were found among Girgensohn's specimens in TAA and TU. These include Hypnum fertile Sendtn. and Pohlia andalusica (Höhn.) Broth., both new to Estonia, and Ulota drummondii (Hook. & Grev.) Brid., a new species to Latvia.
