Abstract

This article describes how the University of British Columbia Library developed its Extension Library in response to the growth of distance education in the province of British Columbia. The reasons for creating the position of Extension Librarian and for maintaining a separate collection to supply distance education course readings are explained, as well as problems in acquisitions for off-campus courses and staffing.
