Abstract
Members of the collectin protein family are β-inhibitors of influenza virus infectivity. They bind to carbohydrate on the surface of influenza virus and sterically inhibit virus interaction with host cells, and may also act as opsonins. We propose that collectins, by interacting with glycosylated viruses, act as innate inhibitors of viral infection.
