Abstract

Better data can only improve the ethnographic component of anthropology. In one biological study, mosquitos have been equipped with tiny radio transmitters so that their location can be monitored. Most anthropologists may not want to "wire up" their informants in this way to collect data on location, activity, vital signs, etc. during rituals, ceremonies, creative activity or daily life. Nonetheless, Willett Kempton here describes one situation where automatic records of behavior proved useful.
