Abstract

Collars were drawn from annular aluminum blanks of 1 mm thickness using an annular urethane pad and a die by applying Maslennikov’s technique, developed originally for drawing very deep cups. Tests were conducted to determine the effectiveness of this new technique of collar drawing. The inner diameters of the blank were varied to determine the optimum conditions for the process. Inspection after each loading cycle in interrupted tests shows the progressive deformation of the collar. Thickness variations were also measured. Results from these preliminary experiments are presented.
