Abstract

A 61-year-old woman presented with watery diarrhea for several months and a weight loss of 4 kg was admitted to our hospital. On physical examination, no systemic upset was noted. A detailed laboratory work-up including multiple stool cultures was negative. Colonoscopy revealed several large and deep longitudinal mucosal defects (mucosal fractures) in the ascending colon, which were observed only during the withdrawal of the colonoscope (Fig. 1). During the endoscopic insertion phase, only some ‘cat scratch’ mucosal defects were noted. Histological results revealed CC. Eventually, her diarrhea improved spontaneously. A large amelanotic choroidal melanoma of her right eye was found about one year later and proton beam radiotherapy was initiated with good results.
