Abstract

THERE have been several studies of the qualitative and quantitative changes produced in different components of connective tissue after treatment of normal animals with carcinogens1. However, little attention has been paid to the changes in the connective tissue during the growth of a tumour. This communication reports studies in the collagen content of neoplastic tissue, as well as of the tissue surrounding the tumour, during the development of the neoplasm in rats. The quantities of collagen in subcutaneous tissue taken from the upper part of the abdomen (at a considerable distance from the tumour) were taken as controls.
