Abstract

The basic physicochemical characteristics of the polydimethylsiloxane chain explain the use of silicones both for surface coatings and in making elastomeric materials.Silicone sealants crosslinking in contact with the humidity in the air have been used in the field of assemblies for the building industry for thirty years now.Silicone manufacturers also propose methods of assembling metal or plastic parts subjected both to extreme temperatures and to vibration. The process adopted by Rhone-Poulenc will be presented and illustrated with a few examples of applications in various industries where the use of quick-setting adherent Silicone elastomers is justified.
