Abstract

Abstract Eight laboratories participated in a collaborative study of a method for chlorinated pesticide residues in fish. Gas chromatography was used for quantitative measurement of the residues. The study consisted of 3 fish samples; 2 were fortified with each pesticide at 2 levels and the third sample contained incurred residues of p,p′-DDE and p,p′-TDE. Average recoveries for both fortified levels were: α-BHC, 92.2±14.9%; heptachlor epoxide, 91.6±8.8%; p,p′-DDE, 87.5±13.5%;p,p′-TDE, 88.6±11.4%; p,p′-DDT, 90.6±9.7%; and dieldrin, 82.2±25.4%. In most instances, residues were confirmed by TLC. The method has been adopted as official first action for determination of residues of these 6 pesticides in fish.
