Abstract
Background/Aims: Neurotrophins play important roles in mediating and modulating sensory plasticity in normal and diseased states, and may also have roles in colitis-induced bladder hypersensitivity. The aims of this study are to examine the pathways leading to the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in dorsal root ganglia (DRG) during colitis, and to examine the role of BDNF in calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) expression in DRG. We also examined the role of BDNF in colitis-elicited increases in bladder voiding frequency.
