Abstract
A new ophthalmological antibiotic, colistin sulfate ophthalmic, formulation was used in 165 patients by 123 investigators to whom it was sent on an emergency basis. The reported results were tabulated. The principal indication for its use was<i>Pseudomonas</i>infections of the eye in which there was an 89% satisfactory response. The response overall to all infecting organisms was 83%; 78 of these patients had been refractory to previous treatment. The average dosage regimen was one to two drops applied optically every onehalf to one hour. Duration of therapy varied from 1 to 114 days with an average of 14 days. Side effects ascribable to the antibiotic were reported in one of the patients.
