Abstract
Nick Dai and colleagues [1] conducted an up-to-date review of the literature to assess the rates of colectomy for ulcerative colitis (UC) over time, also comparing the pre-biologic vs biologic drug eras. Indeed many clinicians and their patients hoped that biologics would reduce, or even eliminate, the need for surgery,1 and whilst a reduction in colectomy rates occurred, the effect is smaller than expected.
