Cold-powder-metallurgy-processed chevrel phase superconducting wires. I. Prereacted PbMo 6S 8 powder with niobium-copper as sheath material

Abstract

Cold-powder metallurgical processed prereacted PbMo 6S 8 monofilamentary wires have been fabricated with a niobium sheath material into a copper tube. Critical current densities are 1.13× 10 8 A/ m 2 at 3 T and 0.45× 10 8 A/ m 2 at 9.2 T and 4.2 K. These results are the best ones obtained on wires containing prereacted PbMo 6S 8 powder as a starting material.
