Abstract
The generalized phonon density of states (GPDOS) for La 2− x Sr x CuO 4 ( x=0.0, 0.08, 0.12, 0.15 and 0.21) powder samples are determined from inelastic cold-neutron scattering measurements using the TOF-type cold-neutron spectrometer, AGNES, mainly above the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural phase transition temperature. The softening of modes at about 12 meV was observed in the GPDOS for La 1.85Sr 0.15CuO 4. This phenomenon is related with the instability of the K 2NiF 4-type tetragonal structure.
