Abstract

Quasielastic transfer of neutrons and protons has been measured in the interaction of 208Pb on 144Sm at an energy of 5.5 and 5.8 MeV/u. Favourable matching conditions allow the observation of the transfer of up to six protons. Neutron-pair transfer starting with the closed shells N = 82 and N = 126 shows no enhancement. The proton transfer is observed up to three pairs. It is strongly enhanced with the same enhancement factor for each step. This effect is interpreted as the tunneling of Cooper-pairs starting in the superfluid proton pairing state in 144Sm through an interior barrier formed in the two-center configuration.
