Abstract

In hydrostatic extrusion the friction between the billet and the die is reduced to the utmost limit. From the viewpoint of lubrication, therefore, hydrostatic extrusion is an ideal process of metalworking and has a number of advantages over conventional extrusion. In using hydrostatic extrusion as a forming process, however, a variety of ideas and considerations are required to make the most of its features in a series of extrusion operations including billet preparation, to say nothing of extrusion tooling.
