Abstract

Coke evolution during MTP reaction over mesoporous ZSM-5 zeolite was investigated at 480 °C in a fixed-bed reactor. Fresh and deactivated mesoporous ZSM-5 zeolites at different stages were characterized by TG, N2 adsorption-desorption, GC–MS, XRD, TEM as well as NH3-TPD. The characterization results showed the ‘S’ type curve of coke depositions with three stages along TOS. Internal coke was initially deposited in micropores of zeolite with initial soluble carbonaceous species identified as bulky alkylbenzenes such as tetraMBs and pentaMBs. Along TOS, the initial soluble carbonaceous species could grow into insoluble coke leading to rapid occupation in mesopores.
