Abstract

Applications of the self-consistent one-electron local density theory are described within the molecular orbital framework. The discrete variational method is used to determine cohesive energy, spectroscopic, and magnetic properties. We discuss data representative of recent progress in three areas: size effects in small metal particles, magnetic impurities in transition metal hosts, and the effects of hydrogen (or muon) impurities in transition metals.
