Abstract

The article provides a synthetic summary of the analysis of the Regional Operational Programs (ROPs) in terms of the possibility of using cohesion policy funds to create or maintain environmentally friendly rural functions. The aim of the study was to track the availability of cohesion policy funds dedicated to environmental protection at voivodship level in rural areas. The spatial scope of the analysis concerned 16 voivodships. The ROPs documents for the 2014-2020 budget perspective, valid in the summer of 2017 were analyzed. The level of allocation of funds, details on the selection of projects and beneficiaries, including preferences for rural areas, were assessed. The declared allocation of resources to support the environmental performance of rural areas can be assessed as relatively high. The detailed provisions of the program documents, however, indicate the limited practical availability of these funds for non-urban areas.
