Abstract

The coherent state model (CSM) which was previously proposed to describe the ground, beta, and gamma bands of even-even nuclei, is considered for the special case of large deformations. Asymptotic expressions for the excitation energies and the B( E2) values are analitically written. The final formulas for energies are first tested on 232Th and then applied to several even-mass isotopes of U and Hf. Branching ratios are calculated for 232Th, where relevant data exist. The CSM is extended so that two excited octupole bands are included. The numerical study shows very good agreement with the experimental data.
