Abstract

Coherent rotational dynamics of gas-phase molecules induced by the excitation with an intense nonresonant ultrafast laser field is discussed. In particular, utilities of quantum-state resolved spectroscopic probe after the nonadiabatic rotational excitation (NAREX) by the ultrafast pulse(s) are described with an example of double-pulse excitation experiments on NO, which provide detailed information on excitation pathways in NAREX. Future prospects of the present method are briefly discussed.
