Abstract

We treat the simultaneous propagation of distinct pump, Raman, and fluorescence pulses in a collisionally-broadened Raman medium. Our model is based on semiclassical coupled Maxwell-Bloch equations where the atomic density matrix must be expanded from nine to thirteen elements to account for the two distinct frequencies in the Stokes light. Numerical solutions of the model allow us to identify and discuss a sequence of new coherence effects.
