Abstract

The formation of the coherent population trapping (CPT) resonance in cells of finite sizes without a buffer gas is studied. It is found that, depending on the laser spectrum width, different CPT resonance narrowing mechanisms take place; these are the Dicke effect and the light-induced narrowing effect. Under light-induced narrowing conditions, the CPT resonance parameters are found to weakly depend on the cell size and the type of wall coating.
