Abstract

A particle moving in a substance continuously excites the atoms with which it collides. It gives rise to an incoherent emission of photons by excited atoms (Cherenkov emission is an exception). A method which permits one to calculate coherent photon emission by excited atoms in electromagnetic field has been developed.
