Abstract

We study the coherent structures in phase space of the system consisting of a low-density beam at high average velocity plus a plasma well separated from the beam in velocity space. In this case, the beam can support electrostatic waves at arbitrary frequency. We show that if this frequency is greater than the linear plasma frequency, the beam has a hole structure. In the other case, the structure becomes a bump.
