Abstract
The polariton at 1065 cm −1 in amorphous quartz is studied by means of coherent Hyper-Raman Scattering. The dispersion curve and its width in q-space are measured with great accuracy. The results show that, in the frequency range spanned, light propagates in the glass with a well defined wavevector and localization effects are absent. The refractive index and absorbance describing the propagation of the polariton can be calculated from a mean dielectric constant.
