Abstract
Resonant-coherent excitation of high-energy ions moving in crystal materials is discussed. In particular, when an electron is excited from a bound state of the ion to the continuum -the transition energy corresponding to one of the harmonics of the surface crystal lattice potential-, the electron is predicted to be emitted around certain preferential directions, determined by energy and momentum conservation. The cases of surface, planar, and axial channeling are separately discussed, as well as the interaction with polycrystalline materials.
