Abstract

The propagation of light in a random medium is considered. Coherent back scattering in the region of weak localization and near the mobility edge is discussed and a scaling theory is presented. Results on the fluctuations and correlations in the transmitted light are presented. The effects of inelastic scattering arising from particle motion on the spectral distribution of the scattered light is discussed. It is pointed out that there is an interesting optical analog to the RKKY interaction in metals.
