Abstract

Abstract The average hadron multiplicity in deep inelastic scattering at small x is calculated in this paper. Its relationship with the average multiplicity in e + e − annihilation is established. As shown the results do not depend on a choice of the gauge vector. The important role of coherence effects in both space-like and time-like jet evolution is clarified.
