Abstract

The relation between self-diffraction and coherence times of gaussian optical pulses with a linear frequency chirp is analysed quantitatively. Self-diffraction of 1 μm picosecond pulses in GaAs has been measured to investigate the coherence properties of the pulses. A new configuration of self-diffraction detection is suggested in order to diagnose weak picosecond pulses.
