Abstract

Sex differences in coping with stressful life events were explored in the present study. A large group of recently stressed college students completed a questionnaire composed of theoretically and empirically derived coping strategies. Results showed that women utilized both behavioral and cognitive types of strategies, while men employed mostly cognitive strategies. This finding is discussed in relationship to women's greater inclination to acknowledge and seek help for feelings of depression.
