Abstract

The aim of the study was to investigate blood donation intention among ethnic minorities using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) in a sample of Black, Asian and White Participants ( n = 146). Measures included TPB variables (based on Giles and Cairns, 1995), ethnic group identification (EGI) and in-group altruism (IGA). The TPB variables were good predictors of intention to donate blood, accounting for 43% of the variance. Black and Asian compared to White participants scored significantly higher on both EGI and IGA. EGI and IGA were both significantly negatively correlated with intentions. The implications of these findings are discussed.
