Abstract

Aim: The aim of the study was to find out the cognitive dysfunction among geriatric patients Objectives: To find out the intellectual impairment in geriatric patient To compare the gender difference in cognitive dysfunction among geriatric patients Methods: Fifteen geriatric patients with the age group of 65-80 (Mean Age 74.2) in and around Chidambaram were selected for this survey. All patients were screened by Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire SPMSQ was used as an objective measurement of cognitive dysfunction among geriatric patient. The scores of SPMSQ were statistically analyzed and interpreted Result: The statistical analysis of Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ) scores mean value is 7.733333 and the SD is 0.997775. This statistical picture suggests that, the Moderate and severe intellectual impairment was seen in geriatric patients. Conclusion: Cognitive dysfunctions were seen among both genders of geriatric patients and geriatric patients of male were more prone to Cognitive impairments then the female patients.
