Abstract

Schizophrenia is a severe and chronic mental disorder characterized by a range of cognitive, behavioral, and emotional disturbances. Cognitive-behavioral therapy-insomnia (CBT-I) has emerged as a promising treatment approach for patients with Schizophrenia, aiming to alleviate symptoms, improve functioning, and enhance overall quality of life. The latest guidelines from the European Sleep Research Society and American Academy of Sleep Medicine reviews of meta-analyses conclude that CBT-I should be the first line therapy offered to patients suffering from Insomnia. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the existing literature on CBT-I for Schizophrenia, including its theoretical foundations, treatment components, effectiveness, and potential mechanisms of action. The review highlights the clinical utility and empirical support for CBT-I, as well as discusses important considerations and future directions for research and practice.
