Abstract
Cognitive disorders represent an important public health problem due to the high incidence against the background of the aging process and the frailty syndrome, in addition to physical decline, there is a cognitive and neurosensory decline, which causes a decrease of autonomy, limitation of physical performance with impairment of functionality in this group of elderly people. The aim of this study was to evaluate the provisional results of cognitive and neurosensory disorders against the background of the frailty syndrome and to establish some correlations between the determining factors in the elderly. The study, of an epidemiological, descriptive, transversal type, was carried out between November and August 2020 - 2022, on a study group of 400 elderly, average age 72.70±0.30 years, divided into three age groups depending on the Fried frailty screening criteria: group I (frail) – 179 (44,75%) cases, group II (pre-frail) – 115 (28,75%) cases and group III (robust) – 106 (26,5%) cases. Subsequently, all participants were examined according to the complex geriatric assessment (Katz score, Lawton, Tinetti, MMSE, Hamilton), the frailty syndrome was established according to the Fried frailty screening criteria, Gröningen score(GFI), physical performance - The Short Physical Performance Battery(SPPB), sarcopenia - SARC-F, nutritional status - MNA and depression - Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS). The obtained data revealed a high frequency of the frailty syndrome in the elderly, including positive and negative correlations with various geriatric scores, which suggests the type of physical, cognitive and sensory frailty with decreasing autonomy and establishing dependence in the elderly included in the study. This category of population presents a group with increased vulnerability, associated with a physical and cognitive decline.
