Abstract
Abstract The type locality of the Coffee Sand is a series of bluffs on the Tennessee River north of Coffee Landing, Hardin County, Tennessee. The westernmost bluff is located at Lat. 35°16′28”N; Long. 88°17′32” W on the Milledgeville, Tennessee 7½-minute quadrangle (see index map, Fig. 1). The site is accessible by car and it is only a short walk along the river from Coffee Landing to one of the low bluffs. However, during high water the bluffs may not be approachable from Coffee Landing along the river's edge. All the bluffs are accessible by boat, and the bluff tops are only a short distance from paved roads although it is necessary to cross through woods. The bluffs are in an active cutbank of the Tennessee River, thus are very steep and unstable. Therefore, caution is recommended, weather.
